how do I ask for charity donations instead of gifts at my birthday party?

Q) I am having a big 30th birthday party, and instead of gifts I would prefer people to give a small donation to my favorite charitys. I am putting a small note in with my invites to ask this, but I dont know how to word it!! Please help?

Dad's 50th birthday gift?

Q) I was hoping for some inspiration/ideas for a gift for my dad's 50th birthday which is gonna be on the 14.04.07. I want something that he'll remember forever or something to keep. I've been down the route of the old newspapers and activities days, but he needs a medical for most of them. I am normally known for my unique ideas and great gifts that are personal for the person, but I am stuck. I did see the the personalised football books (like the one in the link below), but he supports Swindon - Yes I know, so does he, but at least he's not a glory supporter or anything. He lives in north yorkshire so a season ticket is no good either really. I would have loved to get him one of swindon. A) How about getting him 50 small presents! Have a look on ebay and find things from the year he was born, you'll be amazed what great items you will find!

A personal tip from me: Whenever my mother in law sends me and my wife something from the States, just to be on the safe side, she unpacks the goods and kinda make them look used - and declares the goods as "used" on the tax declaration form at the post office.

Getting a friend to come on holiday with me as a BIRTHDAY GIFT?

Q) I asked my friend if he would like to go on holiday for the weekend for his birthday - i was paying flights and accomodation. All he would need is some spending money which wouldn't be a problem for him. Anyway...I asked him today and he said no he didn't want to go. I think it's because a) it's a gift and he thinks it's too much to accept and b) there would only be two of us, even tho we would hav a great time. he also says that it's not his kind of thing but i we've spoke about goin to this place before and he seemed like he wanted to go...now i'm offerin to take him and he says no? how can i get him to say yes? so gutted and frustrated!! We are strictly friends!!! But very close friends at that!!

A) Hi, Maybe he worried what he needs to do in return - if you a girl he may feel you like him and if you a boy he may feel he will have to match your gift from him when it your birthday! He may not be able to get time off from work or have spending money too go but doesn't wish to say in case it causes embarrassment and you offer to do that too. Also some people prefer to go away in a big crowd in case the two of you get different ideas of what to do and this may be a cause to why he does not which to go away - maybe he feels the two of you are not that pally to be going away together! Just ask him outright why he won't go! Lx

Do you buy gifts for your lover?

Q) My boyfriend didn't buy me a birthday gift yet....he said he didn't have time to think about a gift this year because he's overloaded at work, but he will buy something soon. He did take me for a meal...but I am feeling upset. Maybe I am being unfair? We have been going out together for over three years and he usually buys me a thoughtful gift...when its his birthday I do the same. Is this his way of telling me something? I've talked to him about it, and he says he doesn't really get why I'm upset. Would love to hear thoughts about gifts - what do you do?

A) How he treats you on a day-to-day basis is more important than a gift. And he did take you out for a meal. I would let it go, if he is good to you otherwise. I do buy gifts for my guy, but women are more inclined to do that. My guy usually forgets to buy me anything, but he treats me like a princess in other ways.

A) If you know what kind of things she like then that should be easy job. But giving gifts is really difficult - well you can't miss with flowers and a greting card saying:"I'm so happy to have so good and beautifull mother who has today ___ years". Words have much more powerfull effect than any given gift.
